MRS. SANDRA V. SILVERMAN

It is with a great and sincere sense of loss that the Fairfield Board of Education notes the death of Sandra V. Silverman, a dedicated teacher at McKinley School.

Mrs. Silverman, a native of White Plains, New York had completed 11 years of conscientious and devoted service to the Fairfield Public Schools in June of 1978. She was a second grade teacher at Grasmere School for six years. Pursuing her interests and talents in the field of reading, she earned two Master's degrees, one of which was in reading. She then became the reading teacher in the Project Challenge Program at McKinley School in 1973, a position she held until her untimely passing.

In addition to her excellent skills as a reading teacher, she showed a great degree of sensitivity to the needs of her students. She was a warm and caring person, who was naturally suited to teaching. She placed great demands on herself by unselfishly giving of her time and talents far beyond what one would reasonably expect of a teacher. Where others may have failed, Sandy often succeeded in reaching and helping students with problems. She was a quiet lady who had many admirable qualities, not the least of which was a most courageous attitude towards her illness.

Her premature death is a great loss to all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her.
